10 Fraser Valley Must-Dos for Your Bucket List

Whenever I get the question, “What is there to do in Fraser Valley?” I’m always a little taken aback. The better question is, “What isn’t there to do in Fraser Valley?” Now, don’t get me wrong. Fraser Valley isn’t New York City, filled with big-city amenities (though Vancouver and Seattle aren’t far away!), but you’d still be hard-pressed to get bored in this unique and beautiful region.

Below are just a few of my favorite things to do in Fraser Valley. I tried to include a little something for everyone. I hope you find something that gets you as excited as I am about the boundless possibilities FV, BC has to offer.

What to do in Fraser Valley

Canoeing at Cultus Lake

Water-lovers won’t be bored in Fraser Valley. Cultus Lake Park offers a range of options for family fun in, on, and by the water. Whether you’d prefer to swim, boat, stand-up paddleboard, kayak, powerboat, or sail, there’s something for you to enjoy at Cultus Lake.

Stargazing in McDonald Park

Stars are visible throughout Fraser Valley, but nothing compares to stargazing in McDonald Park. McDonald Park in Abbotsford is a dark-sky preserve designated by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. It’s located in a valley, and at night, light pollution from the nearby cities of Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission is blocked by Sumas Mountain. That means you can see the stars in all their glory. Pack a blanket and a bottle of wine and enjoy the view!

Camping at Othello Tunnels

Camping is one of my favorite outdoor activities in FV. In my opinion, you have to camp out to truly soak in the beauty of Fraser Valley. If you’re going to camp, you should do it at Othello Tunnels. Located in Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, Othello Tunnels is a scenic hiking destination with railway tunnels built through a granite mountain. It’ll take you one or two hours to walk the tunnels, but you can easily spend a whole weekend hiking or biking other nearby trails and using the many available picnic areas.

Pet Alpacas at Kensington Prairie Farm

Need something the kiddos will love? I’ve got you covered. (Don’t worry, you’ll love this too!) Kensington Prairie Farm offers farm tours, alpaca walks, shopping, and even an alpaca photo experience!

Catch a Movie at the Twilight Drive-In in Langley

The Twilight Drive-In in Langley, BC, is metro Vancouver’s only drive-in movie theatre! You’ll find old and new flicks for all audiences. (Even better in COVID times, you can enjoy a film with fellow movie-goers while staying safe in your own vehicle!)

Find Inner Peace at the International Friendship Garden

Here’s a little hidden treasure of FV I’ll give away for free. The International Friendship Garden This is a secret garden hidden next to the Clearbrook Library. Inside, there is a quaint patio area, making this the perfect place to sit, eat a picnic, and find inner zen. You’ll also find a pathway that leads around the garden to a waterfall and golden tree. Bonus: you can also rent out this lovely space for special events or photoshoots!

Go on a Shopping Spree at Highstreet Shopping Centre

Got some money burning a hole in your pocket? Shopaholics will love Highstreet Shopping Centre, one of the many shopping venues available in Fraser Valley. You’ll find name brand stores like GAP, H&M, Old Navy, Sephora, and Walmart, a wide array of food and drink options, and much more.

Relax and Unwind at Harrison Hot Springs Resort

Harrison Hot Springs is a small community at the south end of Harrison Lake in FV. One of the top attractions here is Harrison Hot Springs Resort, which boasts five hot mineral springs pools and various therapeutic spa treatments. Not only will you enjoy the luxurious, modern amenities this resort has to offer, but you’ll also get to take in the natural beauty of this remarkable area in comfort and style.

Taste the Ancient “Nectar of the Gods” at Campbell’s Gold

Campbell’s Gold Honey Farm & Meadery is a family-owned farm and apiary in southwest Abbotsford, BC. You can take a tour of the farm, taste mead, and take various classes on beekeeping, beeswax candlemaking, mead making, and much more. You won’t want to miss out on experiencing this unique and beautiful place!

Sip Craft Beer on the Fraser Valley Ale Trail

If beer is more your thing, you’re not out of luck. The Fraser Valley and greater BC area have a wide variety of breweries to choose from. BCAleTrail.ca has created a Fraser Valley Ale Trail mapping out a day-by-day schedule of thirteen breweries, four liquor stores, five restaurants, two cafes, and more attractions you can’t miss. Add “completing the Fraser Valley Ale Trail” to your FV Bucket List!
